Chadlington’s Cricketing Cyclists

News has reached the Editor of an impressive charity fundraising achievement, in which five people from Chadlington took part back in October 2017.

Three members of Chadlington Cricket Club:- Mark Lambert, Phil McConville and Jason Chipchase took part in the Big Bike Ride 3, which was raising funds for the Professional Cricketers Association Benevolent Fund and the Tom Maynard Trust.

The 365 mile, five day route was planned by Chadlington resident and owner of Cotswold cycles Andrew Hutchings.   The ride began in Birmingham and finished in Cardiff after a nationwide trip which took in the Derbyshire Peak district, Shropshire, Malvern Hills, Forest of Dean and the Welsh Mountains.

Big Bike Ride 3 visited 16 community cricket clubs in Warwickshire, Derbyshire, Yorkshire, Cheshire, Shropshire, Herefordshire, Gloucestershire and Wales. The peloton included former England players Marcus Trescothick, Tim Bresnan, Geraint Jones, Matthew Maynard, Michael Vaughan, Steve James and Gavin Hamilton and a number of current and past county players. Andrew’s wife Tracey was a leading member of the mechanical support team bringing the total number of Chadlington participants to five, more than any other village in the event.

This was a very tough bicycling challenge both physically and mentally.   Andrew Hutchings’ route was extremely demanding making sure the 60 cyclists truly earned every penny of their sponsorship and the five Chad stalwarts were very proud to have completed the course.

Although Big Bike Ride 3 is over, the fundraising continues and the donations have now exceeded, with Gift Aid, £100,000.
