The Saltway and Ditchley Park guided walk @ Ditchley Park Gate, near Kiddington, Enstone, OX7 4EX | England | United Kingdom

This ‘moderate’ walk of five and a half miles is a circular walk exploring the eastern border of the Cotswolds AONB and part of Ditchley Park; wartime retreat of Prime Minister Winston Churchill. Winston Churchill used the house as a weekend retreat during WW2.

Lunch opportunities in Charlbury afterwards.

Reach start point from Charlbury via B4437 and Ditchley Road signed off near the primary school,

We will explore part of the Saltway, an ancient drove road and local nature reserve. It is straddled by the Ditchley estate, once home to the Lee [later Lee-Dillon] family and visited by Queen Elizabeth I.

Good Neighbours’ Afternoon Tea

The Good Neighbours project are continuing to host Thursday afternoon teas between 2.30 and 4 p.m. in Autumn 2018. Please note that the venue has changed  from the Methodist schoolroom to St Nicholas Church in Chadlington.

Everyone is welcome – meet up with old friends, make new friends. We look forward to seeing you for a cup of tea and a piece of cake.

There is no charge for refreshments but a donation would be very welcome. Please let the organisers know if you require transport by calling 07541 235002

This ‘strenuous’ walk of twelve miles will explore this area famous for its ironstone.

The walk will be led by Lucy and Martin Squires and cover local history as well as experiencing the stunning landscape.

Please take a packed lunch and of course wear appropriate clothing and footwear for rough and steep terrain.

Chadlington Winter Quiz

The new quizzing season brings some changes to previous years. The Quiz will now be at the Bowls Club in Church Road. A club with a perfect room for quizzing and one that sells an excellent selection of bottled beer wine and spirits, all at very competitive prices. So the venue has changed but there’s more….
Gone is the table quiz to start the evening and in its place are extra rounds. Eight rounds of ten questions all on different subjects so plenty of opportunity to shine. ‘Jokers’ and ‘Chokers’ will remain with points doubled or nullified on subjects of your choice.
And, to replace sandwiches there will be hot snacks, pies, crisps and nuts.
A usual teams of six are welcome to join the event. Please e-mail Nigel direct to put your team forward. If you do not have a full team, he will try to match you with others.

These restorative yoga classes are held every week in Chadlington. Classes are taught by a very experienced teacher who has a caring and individual approach to all participants. They are suitable for all abilities and particularly beneficial for those with a current health condition.

You can pay at each class or a reduced fee of £55 per half term can be paid in advance.

Sarsden and Warden’s Wood guided walk

This ‘easy’ walk of five miles will provide a gentle stroll along the D’Arcy Dalton Way through the Sarsden Estate has good views across the Evenlode Valley. We visit ancient monuments and a new woodland planted by the Cotswolds Voluntary Wardens. Admire a large walled garden on our return.

Lunch options at several nearby pubs afterwards.

The walk will be led by Gerald Simper, a voluntary warden for the AONB.

Stones and Ditches guided walk

Stones and Ditches guided walk @ The Bell Inn | Charlbury | England | United Kingdom

This ‘moderate’ walk of eight miles will take you along the Oxfordshire Way with views over the Evenlode then joining Shakespeare’s Way with views of the house at Ditchley Park.

A return via Grim’s Ditch to Charlbury where reasonable lunches can be pre-ordered at The Bell.

The Evenlode is a very scenic valley giving wide views. Stonesfield was formerly the source of Cotswold stone roofing tiles which were mined around the village. Ditchley Park is a fine country house in a wooded estate which is now used for high level conferences but formerly owned by Sir Henry Lee a favourite of Queen Elizabeth I. The Iron Age monument Grim’s Ditch on the Ditchley Park Estate survives well as a visible earthwork for almost its entire length.
