U3A Open Afternoon

Everyone is welcome to find out more about our local U3A groups. There will be coffee/tea and cake free to all-comers.

The Third Age refers to the period of life when full time work is over and there is time to meet new friends, follow hobbies and interests and explore new ones. It is a charitable organisation, which has been established for over thirty years and now has over 425,000 members and more than 1,039 local branches.

This local University of the Third Age group runs over 20 special interest programmes, ranging from architecture to watercolour painting, through Italian conversation and social cycling. There’s something for everyone and an opportunity to meet with like-minded people.

‘Let’s Draw Some More’ Art Workshop
Oct 4 @ 10:00 am – 12:30 pm

This workshop is described by the Tutor: “Join me for yet more delvings into the wonderful world of mark making that is drawing, whether it’s representational, expressive, imaginative, a bit bonkers and possibly even colourful. This is a day for anyone who just wants to draw whether they’re beginners or more experienced, there’s plenty of exploring to do. Attendance at previous drawing days not a prerequisite.”

The workshop can be taken just for the morning 10-1pm £40 or the whole day 10-4pm £70 including a sumptuous lunch. Teas, coffees etc provided and quite a lot of materials, but always a good idea to bring favourites with you.

Chipping Norton Arts Festival

THE THEME OF THIS YEAR’S FESTIVAL IS, CONNECT – art to SEE and art to EXPERIENCE with workshops on Figure Drawing, Print-Making, Comic book Illustration and many others.

Exhibitions and demonstrations of Painting, Drawing and Printing as well as many and varied artisan Arts and Crafts in various locations around the town. There will also be another showing of Chadlington Primary School’s latest ‘release’ from their in-house film company, The Little Acorns, a company run by the children! Chadnorton is a short film based on Trumpton. For inspiration, the children investigated jobs in and around Chipping Norton, and worked with professionals including Jim Parkin, Head Model Maker from Aardman, to create a delightful stop-motion animation. This event is at 11 a.m. in the Theatre and will start with a making-of documentary.

Featured in The Town Hall is the amazing OF ALL THE PEOPLE IN ALL THE WORLD by internationally renowned arts group ‘Stan’s Cafe’ This fascinating and thought provoking installation has never been seen before in Oxfordshire. Take this opportunity to experience this rare and inspiring event.

Chipping Norton Theatre is hosting not only a group show by members of CNarts on the theme of CONNECT but there will be screenings of; SHANE THE CHEF, THE CLANGERS, HORRID HENRY, and DOCTOR WHO. With Industry professionals explaining how some of these amazing shows are conceived and created.

‘Messing with Monoprinting’ Art Workshop

This workshop is described by the Tutor: “Spend a fun and rather inky day exploring the delights of a kitchen table top approach to printing. Using stencils, ghosts prints, collographs etc we can produce all manner of images, collage them, make a larger piece of work etc, so many possibilities.”
