Chadlington Quality Foods has been announced as Southern Region winner of the “Best Village Shop / Post Office” Category in the prestigious Countryside Alliance Awards.  Although previously a finalist in the “Local Food” category, the judges’ view was that CQF “fulfilled a brilliant role as a Village Shop” in addition to our role supporting Local Food.

Nick, Kath, Emma, Mike and Elizabeth will attend the National Finals event at the House of Lords on Wednesday 3rd February, where the overall winner in each category will be selected by a distinguished panel of judges. Thanks to all our customers for supporting us and especially to those who nominated us for the award!

We were delighted to hear that Santa has decided to use CQF’s Jute shopping bags in place of more glitzy paper gift bags this Christmas.  At only £3 each or 2 for £5, they make an excellent present in themselves and are a practical way to wrap up your parcels.  “Being a good size and with a full rectangular base they stack very well in the back of the sleigh and the sturdy handles don’t break as you’re climbing down the chimney” said Santa.  Our bags are environmentally sound, fairly traded, carbon neutral and use natural materials instead of oil-based synthetics.

We’re half way through one of my favourite times of year – Asparagus Season.  We’ve good locally grown supplies of this delicious, understated vegetable but it sells out quickly so do call us and reserve a bunch or two.  Fresh deliveries arrive every couple of days throughout the season which runs from the end of April to late June.  Our Asparagus is usually cut from the field the same day it’s made available to you.

There’s a wonderful variety of ways to serve Asparagus.  Our favourite is simple - steamed, with melted butter.  Serve with hunks of brown organic bloomer to mop your plate, and a glass of crisp white wine.  For a more sumptuous meal, serve with grilled rashers of oak smoked bacon and melt over some blue veined organic Cotswold brie.
