Given continuing rainfall and predictions of more to come in the following days, we have posted an update on the latest situation in West Oxfordshire and a flooding information which may be of use to residents.
West Oxfordshire District Council is continuing to work with partner agencies to ensure that local issues are addressed and they have a team of officers on standby over the weekend to respond if necessary.
The situation at this time:
- Oxfordshire is forecast to get a further 20mm of rainfall in the next two days, with strong winds tomorrow (Saturday). Showers are expected on Sunday/Monday with the possibility of increased rainfall on Tuesday.
- The main flood risk area in Oxfordshire is west Oxford, however flood risk across the county is increasing.
- The River Thames is on Flood Warning (meaning ‘flooding is expected, action required’) in the south-west fringe of our district, from Buscot Wick down to Shifford including Buscot, Kelmscott, Radcot, Lower Bampton area and Chimney area. According to the Environment Agency, river levels are expected to rise over the next 5 days. At present, this is not presenting significant concern to our district. - Other stretches of the Thames in West Oxfordshire and other rivers are all on ‘flood alert’ (meaning ‘flooding is possible, be prepared’).
- The River Evenlode level at Shipton-under-Wychwood increased significantly in the last 24 hours, however the Environment Agency say that it will be on a decreasing trend. Other local river levels have remained steady, with some slight increases – it is possible that these will rise during the weekend.
- Areas of concern in West Oxfordshire are being monitored closely and any concerned or affected households can contact local authorities. Assistance will be provided if and where necessary.
